Introducing Clipper & Developing for Android

You’ve probably heard of Google’s Android mobile phone operating system. It’s now available on numerous phones from Motorila’s Milestone to Google’s Nexus One.

During the past week I’ve developed a simple freeware utility called Clipper: Clipper is a simple clipboard manager that saves anything you copy into the device clipboard. Then you can later get old clippings if you need them. Here’s a screenshot:

At the time of writing, Clipper is available on Google’s own Android Market, a on-device “application store”. Although there is no official web UI for the market, you can view Clipper’s listing at Cyrket, a 3rd party aggregator for the market.

A big problem with the Android Marketplace is that it’s not available worldwide. The list of countries for commercial developers is even smaller (Finland is not on the list – fortunately I can still upload free apps). And this is why I’m looking for alternative distribution methods: the APK installation file is available for download on Clipper’s website and SlideME looks like a promising 3rd party marketplace.

But in any case, if you own an Android phone, check out Clipper!
